Leopoldsteinersee

The Leopoldsteinersee bears its name from the nearby castle Leopoldstein.

At the foot of the seawall and nestled in mixed and coniferous forests, the lake unfolds across its full splendor throughout the whole year.
The lake is about 600 meters above sea level, it is 1400 meters long and 370 meters wide, its deepest point is 31 meters. By the lake flows the Seebach, however, the lake is mainly fed by underground springs.
Near the lake is a legend to be an Aquarius been caught. In order to buy his release, he showed his captors iron ore deposits, the so called Erzberg only a few kilometers away.

The emerald green mountain lake is a popular excursion and bathing place. The scenically beautiful, flat walk around the mountain lake provides enjoyment for the whole family. With electric and rowing boats from the local boat rental you have the opportunity to enjoy some hours of sunshine on the lake.

From May to September the sea offers refreshing swim for hardy water sprites and mermaids even on hot summer days.

In winter, you meet many locals who are curling or ice skating on the frozen lake.
