Corvara, situated in a sunny plain at the foot of the Sassongher mountain, can be defined as the cradle of tourism in Alta Badia: already by the second half of the 18th century locals began to climb the surrounding mountains and lead the first tourists. With the inauguration of the first ski school after the First World War and the construction of the Col Alto cable way in 1938 (substituted by the first chair lift in Italy in 1947) the green light was given to winter tourism.

Corvara, with its ancient tradition of accommodating tourists, offers a wide range of lodging possibilities: welcoming small family run houses, farm holidays as well as prestigious hotels. Among the strong points of the tourist offer in Corvara are the first class gastronomy and the culture of well-being with cutting-edge beauty centres. Pastry shops, after dinner bars and pubs and fashionable shops offer enjoyment and variety without altering the calmness and pleasantness of the small Alpine town.

In summer several lifts allow you to easily reach altitudes of over 2,000 metres where you can enjoy incomparable panoramas – the view sweeps from the Dolomites peaks of Alta Badia up to the Marmolada glacier and the Austrian Alps. Kilometres and kilometres of pathways, from the easy ones at the valley bottom and on the plateau of Col Alto-Pralongià, up to the longer excursions in the Puez-Odle natural park or the more difficult ones on the Sassongher peak and Piz Boè are the joy of excursionists and climbers alike.

In winter, red and blue slopes await the beginner skiers and the families with small children. The more expert skiers instead choose more demanding slopes such as the Vallon-Boè, 4.5 km long and the Col Alto. From Corvara you have direct “skis on feet” access to two of the most beautiful skiing excursions of the Alps, the “Sellaronda” and the “Skiing tour of the First World War”.
